About the Instructor |
| P.S. Ruckman, Jr. attained an initial interest in philosophy as a senior in high school after reading a novel by Herman Hesse. He then took strong interest in the works of Kierkegaard, Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. After earning a B.D. (1980) and a Th.M. (1982), Ruckman began his formal study of philosophy. Political philosophy eventually became a particular interest, so he double majored and earned B.A.'s in both philosophy and political science (1986). As a graduate student, he continued his study of western political philosophy and took additional interests in jurisprudence (the philosophy of law) and the philosophy of history. Ruckman earned an M.S. (1988) and Ph.D. (1991) and began his career as a teacher and researcher in the discipline of political science. He maintains an active reading interest in the Bible, the philosophy of history, stoicism, deism, existentialism and the state of nature theorists.
